The wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has been awarded a contract for 90MW of wind energy plant in Uruguay by three special purpose companies owned by shareholders of the forestry company Compañia Forestal Uruguaya S.A. (COFUSA). The order consists of 30 V112-3.0 MW wind turbines and is the largest order yet received by Vestas in the country. It was awarded to Vestas by the companies Luz de Mar, Luz de Loma and Luz de Rio.
The turbines will be installed at Pintado, in the department of Florida, Uruguay and the delivery of the order is scheduled for the third quarter (Q3) of 2013 with commissioning to take place in Q2 2014. The contract comprises delivery, installation and commissioning, a VestasOnline Business SCADA system and a 15-year Active Management Output (AOM) 5000 service agreement which will offer customers assured performance in order to avoid unforeseen operational costs.

As of 31st December 2012 Vestas has delivered 523 units of V112-3.0 wind turbines worldwide representing a total capacity of 1,569MW. Overall, the company has received more than 3GW worth of firm orders for this particular model. The Pintado project will have an estimated annual production of more than 381,000 megawatt hours (MWh) per year, displacing almost 117,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
