The excellent attendance at the event by both exhibitors and visitors alike confirms the health of the wind energy sector and Spain’s leadership position in terms of both the capacity installed and the presence of Spanish companies in international markets. Spain currently has approximately 17,000 MW of installed wind capacity, while Spanish wind farm developers and manufacturers operate in 27 countries around the world.
During the bi-annual event which started on Tuesday, players in the Spanish wind energy sector called for a stable legislative framework to ensure growth rates of 2,000 MW per annum are maintained. In this opening speech to the technical workshops at WindPower Expo, José Donoso, president of the Spanish Wind Energy Association (Asociación Empresarial Eólica) requested that the government speed up the process to modify legislation affecting the sector, which is currently causing uncertainties and could impede these growth rates.
Delegations from Maine (US), China and Turkey were among the most noteworthy visitors to the trade fair.
