EU wind market grows, but slowed by flagging onshore segment

EurObserv’ER has released its latest wind power barometer showing that cumulative wind power capacity in the European Union (EU) at the end of 2011: 94.1 GW, up on the figure of 85.0 GW registered at the end of 2010. Nonetheless, EurObserv’ER observes there has been a slowdown in the EU wind power market.

Despite scaremongering from sections of the media and the pro gas and nuclear lobby – figures out today show that on-shore wind added less than £5 to household energy bills last year. The stats were compiled by clean energy company, Ecotricity, and are based on an analysis of Ofgem’s recent report on Renewables Obligations.
